The Children's House Montessori, located in beautiful Traverse City along the beautiful Grand Traverse Bay, is excited to announce the opening of a full-time Upper Elementary Guide (4th-6th grade). The Children’s House Independent Montessori School, established in 1984, serves 260 students from infant through 8th grade. This role is at our Long Lake Campus that sits on 8 lovely acres just west of Traverse City. 

About the Role:
As an Elementary Guide, you are part of a collaborative, creative teaching team dedicated to supporting students during a critical stage of development. This role centers on guiding students through an interdisciplinary, workshop-based, and experiential learning environment that fosters independence, curiosity, community, and responsibility.

The Guide intentionally designs and prepares the environment to provide opportunities for students to develop their identity through meaningful work.  

Montessori education is an education for peace. Guides work closely together to co-plan a 2-year curriculum cycle that inspires and engages learners, fostering independence and interdependence.

The Guide supports adolescents in developing not only academic skills but also social responsibility, self-awareness, and a sense of belonging.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage students in individual and group work. 
  • Develop and implement interdisciplinary lessons that encourage hands-on learning. 
  • Foster a supportive, community-oriented classroom environment. 
  • Collaborate with colleagues to design innovative and engaging curricula. 
  • Travel overnight with students (required up to 3 nights per year)
  • Support students in their personal growth, social development, and academic journey.

Desired/ Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or higher with a focus in education
  • AMI or AMS Montesorri Certification Required
  • Teaching experience with elementary-age students
  • Strong commitment/interest in Montessori principles 
  • Passion for working with elementary students
  • Organized, assertive 
  • Humility, compassion, curiosity, and patience
  • Experience in designing interdisciplinary, experiential learning opportunities that inspire curiosity, critical thinking, and independent exploration
  • A positive outlook, a sense of adventure, and joy!
